The trip making characteristics of persons do change with age as illustrated by Table 1 which compared persons under 65 to persons 65 or older. Also, the use of gender and age specific trip rates do change the number of total person trips and the trip purpose and mode distribution of these trips. However, the proportion of trips generated by persons 65 or over (under 12% of all person trips in 2020) is small and does not materially affect the overall travel characteristics of the region.The primary difference is in the number of school trips and school bus trips. This is due to the changing characteristics of the population due to an aging of the populace. But it is due to a change in the younger cohorts where the trip making rates are lower in the five to nine and ten to fourteen year old age cohorts, rather than an affect of the aging of the older end of the population spectrum.
