Evaluating the Efficacy of Virtual Scenarios Generation to Support the Training of Emergency organizations

The Oil Port of Genova was selected as the domain on which to test and evaluate the efficacy of a novel type of training methodology to be used by the local emergency organization. The new methods is based on the set up of a distributed computers network able to generate a syntetic enivronment generating virtual emergency scenarios for different trainees that must cooperate togheter in the solution of the same emergency management problem. The project results was achieved in hte framework of CEC DG XII ENVIRONMENT porgram. Te developed prototypes was evaluated and tested with the help of the oil Port emergency organization members pointing out the most important qualities and lacks ofthe porposed system. The paper, after the illustration of the system interfaces, functionalities, and the adopted technologies to simulate the emergency scenarios, gives a complete summary of the test and evaluation results.
