Techniques for measuring neutron induced effects in acousto optic materials

This paper introduces some basic performance parameters and measurement techniques important in the characterization of acousto-optic devices under the influence of neutron exposures. Experiment configuration and safety considerations are discussed. Given the number of component characterizations a few important measurement parameters such as insertion loss, and diffraction efficiency are discussed. The measurement of operational parameters and important performance criteria common to acousto optic devices is highlighted and practical methods for error reduction are introduced.
