An integrated prototype shipboard emission monitoring system which is capable of simultaneously monitoring own ship transmitters spanning the 2 MHz - 18 GHz frequency range has been developed. The system combines state-of-the-art photonic and wideband antenna technology which can be customized for each class of ships and can provide real-time monitoring of the frequency, power, and modulation characteristics of own ship emissions. The photonic electromagnetic field probe uses a remote analog fiber optic link to make non-perturbing, large dynamic range, field measurements in the shipboard environment. Aplications include determing and verifying shipboard emission control status for ractical security, monitoring radiation hazards to personnel, ordinance, and fuel at key locations aboard ship, proviiding inputs for a real-time electromagnetic interference management system, and monitoring the signal quality of individual shipboard emitters. This paper describes the photonic electormagnetic field monitoring system, its specifications, and performance in terms of its ability to collect and identify all topside emissions.
