Currently, Indianapolis' advanced wastewater treatment plants (Belmont and Southport) are evaluating final effluent disinfection alternatives. These alternatives include chlorine, ozone, and ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The focus of the research was to examine the chronic toxicity associated with these disinfection alternatives. Seven-day static renewal tests utiliing Cerodaphnia dubia were performed in accordance with the EPA document "Short Tem Methods for Estimating the Chronic Toxicity of Effluents and Receiving Water to Freshwater Organisms" (EPA 600/4-89/001).
