The local displacement speed was measrueed along a premixed flame that is wrinkled, unsteady, stretched, adn freely propagating. The displacement speed is argued to be the most important and sensitive parameter tha tmust be simulated corrrectly in numericla simulatins of turbulent flames. An axisymmetric flame wrinkle is created os that all ocmponents of the normal vector and stretch can be measrued; particle imae velocimetry and high-speed shadowgraph movis yield the difference between the interfac evelocity and the reactant velocity, which is the displacement speed.theis repreatable flame-vortex interaction porblem provides useful test data for direct numericla simulaiton (DNS) models and flame stretch theory.
