EPITAXIAL TEXTURES IN POLYCRYSTALLINE COATING LAYERS ON STEEL SHEETS

The way of calculating the texture of a coating which is correlated with the texture of a substrate through epitaxial relationships is presented. This requires to define both crystallographic relationships and a kind of selection rule. By comparing such a calculated texture with the real one, conclusions can be drawn about the formation process of the coating layer Some examples are given in cases where the substrate is a low carbon steel sheet and the coating is either an electrocoated zinc layer or an aluminium layer obtained by PVD.
