This paper discusses broadband access to desktop in LAN environment and adaptive signal processing technique for high bit-rate data transmission over Unshielded Twisted Pair of category 3 (UTP-3 in US) in the LAN environment.ATM LAN and fast Ethemet physical layer interface transceivers are able to transmit up to 155/100 Mbps (Mega bits per second) over UTP-3 cables for broadband access to office desktop and home digital video. To overcome the propagate loss, Near End Cross Talk (NEXT) interference and to meet the EM emission requirement, advanced signaling and adaptive signal processing are essential to achieve the high bit-rate data transmission over UTP-3 cable.
