Oil-spill trajectory models are increasingly being used for both real-time spill response and longer term ocntingency plannign and risk assessment.The Minerals Management Service (MMS) supports development of the latter type of model, for estimating risks rom offhsore oil sctiviyt.A common shortcoming with all such models is a ptyicla lack of ocean obseervational data to drive the models and skill assess their results.
