After record harvests fo Pacific herring in Prince William Sound (PWS),Alaska in the three years after the Exxon Valdez oil spill,the fishery failed in 1993 and commercial fishign has bene supsended since then.THe hypoteses advanced to explain the dramatic 1993 decline of PWS herring include those postulating a causeal connection to the 1989 oil spill and those atibuting the deline to naturla phenomena.
