An overview of the advanced regional traffic interactive management information system (artimis) for the cincinnati-northern kentucky urbanized area

In 1987, the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments began considering the feasibility of a regional traffic management system to improve air quality and reduce congestion in the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky area. A feasibility study supported the concept. A detailed design has been completed and implementation is well underway. This paper provides an overview of the Advanced Regional Traffic Interactive Managementa nd Information System, or ARTIMIS, one of the first traffic management systems being built in the United States to provide seamless freeway and expressway management across state borde4rs. This paper provides an overview of ARTIMIS, details the various system components, methods employed for data collection, processing, and dissemination, and finally current program status.
