Fluorescent imaging is used to measure the fluid characteristics in the neighborhood of moving contact lines. The rivulets fromed owing to the instability of the film front advancing down an inclined glass-plate are thus examined in detail, including lateral wavelength or spacing between rivulets, tip velocity, three-dimensional shape and dynamic contact line. The extensions of this technique to a large region (approx 1 m~2) and to a small thicknesses with the necessary precision required extensive calibration and independent measurements.
