摘要

We report on effects of pulsatile flow on monocytic cell adhesion to the surface of a model in which flow characteristics thought to be important in atherogenesis are simulated. The surface was coated with E-selectin, and adhesion of activatedmonocytes was investigated under pulsatile flow conditions and compared with uncoated models and steady flow experiments. Coating the model with E-selectin increased the adhesion of cells in all regions in the vertical model. However, pulsatile flow withthe same mean Reynolds number as for steady flow significantly reduced the number of adherent cells throughout the model.
