This session has five papers related to ratcheting issues and shakedown analyses for pressure vessels design. The first paper (PVP2008-61091) discusses the choice of the global shakedown related to the global in-plane strain and the local shakedown defined as the radial strain on the side of the elbows. The second paper (PVP2008-61323) is related to ratcheting tests performed on Inconel 718 at 649°C for uniaxial loading, torsional loading and a few paths of axial-torsional loading. The ratcheting strain at failure may be estimated from the steady-state ratcheting rate and cycles to failure for most test cases. The third paper (PVP2008-61628) discusses on the interaction of thermal membrane and thermal bending stress in shakedown analysis. This paper clarifies the interaction between thermal membrane and bending stress in the presence of a primary membrane stress. The fourth paper (PVP2008-61641) proposes a method based on elastic modulus adjustment procedure (EMAP) and non-cyclic elastic-plastic FEA. The last paper (PVP2008-61921) addresses elastic core concept in shakedown analysis related to ASME Code Section III and Section VIII. The results of the paper show the usefulness of the Code method in predicting the behavior of these structures.
