To meet the current trends in radiation cured markets, a new family of non-acrylate radiation curable oligomers has been developed which is based on novel acrylamido functionality. These undergo free radical homopolymerization with standard commercial photoinitiators to form efficient coatings, and they can be formulated with acrylates to produce a wide range of coating properties. The molecular backbone structures to which this acrylamido functional group can be attached are comparable to the acrylates, and several examples are described here with particular emphasis on unique properties achieved with a bisacrylamido derivative referred to as Alpha-l.
