Novel, waterbome curable dispersions of polyamide resins have been developed to provide water and heat resistance for adhesive and coating applications requiring such demanding properties. These products are single-component curable systems in that they do not require the addition of a second component at time of use to cure. Shelf stability of these dispersions exceeds 1 year as the dispersions exhibit consistent performance over this time. These products are fine particle (<0.5um) colloidal suspensions of dimerized fatty acid-based polyamide resins and are 100 percent VOC-free. Performance properties, including autoclave, heat and water resistance will be discussed in this paper. Adhesion and tensile properties will also be discussed. These curable polyamide dispersions may also be formulated with other adhesivecoating systems to provide improved performance properties in such systems. The polyamide dispersions are compatible with waterborne polyurethane, EVA, VAE and other systems.
