Engineering and technology have contributed to major advances in electrical and computer arenas, with substantial improvements in lifestyle and standard of living. Some progress has been made in advancing alternative energy. Nevertheless, the technology for the largest segment of energy production, oil and gas, has remained largely unchanged for over 100 years. Oklahoma is a major producer of oil and gas, but many of the wells are shut-in because they are uneconomical. An alternative pumping system can make many of these marginal wells economical. A radical pumping design uses computer manipulation of a PVC pump on a wireline to replace old, mechanically-massive walking-beam type pumping systems on low-volume, marginal-economic oil wells. The computer is built on the Raspberry Pi architecture.
