Look-ahead Dispatch Coordinated Control of Wind Power and Aggregated PHEVs

In June 2012, ERCOT Company has provided a new method to provide electricity consumers to see the look-ahead real-time wholesale market prices in the next rolling 60 minutes. This is called Look-ahead Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (LA-SCED). In this way, large electricity consumers can use this information to make optimal decisions based on the electricity prices changes calculated by the LA-SCED. All the prices we post are calculated by the Look-ahead Security Constrains Economics Dispatch optimization based on the Short-term Load Forecast (STLF) and Short-term Wind Power Forecast (STWPF). This paper shares some results of this look-ahead dispatch study. We will introduce some basic information about LA-SCED firstly. Secondly, we will introduce a method called Mixed Integer Quadratic Programming (MIQP) which is the optimization model to calculate LA-SCED. And then, we will compare the results between the conventional SCED and the LA-SCED to see some economic benefits which LA-SCED can provide. At the end, we are going to show some results by coordinating the wind power and PHEVs based on the LA-SCED.
