In this paper we describe our experiences concerning the interconnection of the multiblock multigrid Navier-Stokes Solver FASTEST-3D from the Lehrstuhl fur Stromungsmechanik (LSTM) and the visualization package Iris Explorer of SGI. In many stages of the multigrid iteration, the data that are being approximated do not have real physical meaning. We propose an interaction model that consists of the exhange of control parameters and data with the numerical simulation following one or more V-cycles of the multigrid method. Two different software architectures for this model will be presented. In the first, which is based on PVM, the simulation and the visualization run completely asynchronously. In the second, the simulation is integrated into Iris Explorer as a computational module. The consequences for the visualization algorithms for the support of multiblock data structures will be also addressed.
