The importance of open- and closed-loop control and monitoring systems in hydroelectric plants is continuously increasing-just as it is in thermal power plants. PROKON-LSX, the new I&C system developed by Siemens specially for use in hydroelectric plants, can economically meet an entire range of individual requirements on automation and information processing.Increasing demand for electrical power as well as heightened interest in the use of enewable energy sources have further intensified efforts to ensure that the available water power at each plant location is used as effectively as possible. An increasing flow of information, the need to react quickly and accurately to changing operating conditions, the desire to achieve high machine availability and cost-effective operation, and the requirement that complex, difficult-to-handle machine failures be managed quickly have all led to the need for a high degree of automation.
