This paper suggests: abandoning the method, proposed by W.Lewis, of regarding the gear tooth as the cantilever beam,setting up a new method to calculate the gear tooth-root stress directly according to the real tooth form by the boundary element sampling calculations and regressive analysis based on the principle of similitude. We suggest that the new methods be adopted in ISO 6336 standard.
