Thermal power plants and their potential contribution to environmental protection of underground water and resources through water desalination of sea or brackish waters

Increased demands on environmental policies for protection and rational use of drinking water will force heavy users of water - such as power plants and industry - to seek for alternative water sources. SK Power Co. implemented a testing program for a pilot sea water desalination equipment based on multieffect distillation which utilizes low grade thermal energy. After satisfactory results of the testing program a full scale unit with a capacity of 800 m~3/24h (264,000GPD) was installed.
