USE OF FLEXIBLE REINFORCEMENT IN ELASTOMERS

As part of a continuing study on the mechanical properties of sparsely reinforced elastomer sheet, this paper features some results on the tear resistance and biaxial tensile performance of these materials. The tear resistance is measured through a snag tester, while biaxial strength is measured in a bulge test apparatus. The best snag resistance and tear propagation resistance was found in TPU reinforced with a web of TPU rods in an equilateral triangular pattern. This material also has superior performance in a bulge test.
