摘要

This paper introduces and defines integral attachment features and explores the benefits of using them relative to separate features. The formation of a hierarchy is proposed as a method of rationally organizing the many types of integral attachment which can be found on a plastic part. Assembly functionality was used as the primary classification attribute. This leads to classifying integral attachments into the three major groupings of locators, locks, and compliants. Second level classifications for these groupings are also presented.
