This paper deals with radio wave propagation blocked by a vertically and transversely placed, finite size, perfectly conducting plate. By making use of the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD) and the vector form of the compensation theorem (CT) respectively, analysis and calculation are carried out for the field strength at the receiver point in the shadow region with the centerline of the plate is positioned symmetrically on the direct path from the transmitter to the receiver. The calculated results coming from the two theoretical techniques agree with each other. Experimental results of the received field strength for varying size of plate are provided. Good agreements have been achieved between the theoretical results and the experimental results. The validity of the theoretical techniques has been tested theoretically and experimentally.
