Some CdS-CdSe colored glasses were synthesized and studied. The recorded electronic spectra show many maxima preceding the classical cut edge. Replacing the usual ZnO content by some earth alkali oxides a dependence of the cut edge position upon the basicity of glass was evidenced. Some ideas concerning a possible coloring mechanism and interpretation of the peculiarities of these glasses are advanced.
