INFLUENCE OF Ag ION IMPLANTATION ON THE CRYSTALLIZATION OF Bi-BASED GLASSES

Crystallization of melt-quenched BiSrCaCuO glasses implanted with 120 keV silver ions at a dose rate of 10~(17) ions/cm~2 has been studied, It is found that the crystalline phase, crystal morphology of implanted sample are different from that of initial glass after annealing at 840 °C for 72 h, the plate-like crystals which have the composition of superconducting phase grow outside the surfaces of implanted sample,and the whiskers with single crystal structure and the composition of 2212- or 2223- phase grow perpendicularly to the surfaces. There are two resistance drops on the R- T curve of implanted sample, Tc are around 110 K and 90 K, respectively. The results show that silver ion implantation doesn't give remarkable effects on the phase formation in the interior of the Bi- based glasses during crystallization, but effects the crystal growth on the surfaces of samples.
