Silica-titania films doped with CdS, PbS and (Cd,Pb)S were prepared by the sol-gel method using thiourea as an internal source for sulfur, with the aim to obtain nonlinear optical waveguides. Methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) were used as precursors for silica in the attempt to optimize both thickness and optical properties. Sulfide nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction and UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Refractive index and optical losses of the waveguides were also measured.
