THE USE FOR GLASS DINNERWARE OF THE ION EXCHANGE IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION

Experiments of ion exchange in aqueous solution were performed on glasses shaped with automatic machines, in order to improve their mechanical shock resistance. The treated and untreated glasses were submited to the pendulum impact test and at Vickers indentation. The tendency to microcracks developing and the thickness of the compressive layer formed at the glass surface, were evaluated. The optimum type of salts, the thermal treatment temperature and duration, were putted into evidence.
