Novel processing concepts in catalytic coal/oil co-processing are being evaluated in continuous process units at Hydrocarbon Technologies.Inc.The new ideas explored in this program include the studies of the effects of adding hydroaromatic solvents,the effects of a combined system of dispersed/supported catalysts,and the effects of temperaturestaging on coal/oil co-processing.Improvements are realized in terms of resid conversion,distillate yield and quality.The best results have been achieved using a combination of HTI's iron catalyst and commercial Mo catalyst in the first stage and a supported catalyst in the second stage.This combination of catalysts results in a coal conversion of 94.4W
