Distribution feeders are typically limited either by thermal or voltage considerations. Lines in high load density areas are generally limited by the ampacity of conductors or station equipment, while lines in low load density areas ar typically limited by the ability of voltage regulating equipment to maintain voltage within acceptable limits. The development of electronic Distribution Static Condensers, or D-STATCONs, may increase the capability of voltage-limited feeders by a significant amount beyond that which was previously attainable.
