Media scaling in ATM networks

Media scaling is the reactive variation of the traffic load of a digital video or audio stream using special coding techniques, e.g. dynamic quantization and hierarchical coding. For the transmission of video and audio over networks it provides advantages over static coding schemes by allowing more efficient use of resources. Media scaling is closely related to traffic management We investigate the possibilities for media scaling in A TM networks for several applications and present the respective costs and benefits.
