Demand Side Management is building a least cost generator through efficiency gains in customer facilities. One should not assume that Demand Side Management Programs affect demand and energy consumption. As impact evaluators, our goal is to prove that DSM programs are relieving the kW & kWh load on the plant. The paper reviews impact verification challenges and successes at PSI Energy by examining three industrial DSM projects. Engineering associated with DSM is accountable for the impacts that customers, shareholders and utilities receive. It may be beneficial to view the DSM mix as an aggregate of customer-side generators-"microplants". Customized impact verification reports can assist in gaining credibility for our programs. Three of PSI Energy's industrial DSM projects are explored with three different technologies installed. A combination of before and after metering, process knowledge, and engineering judgment were used. The projects represent the following technologies: high efficiency fluorescent lighting, injection press barrel wraps, and adjustable speed drives.
