This paper describes our experience in applying the object-oriented paradigm to the construction of a large system for telephone engineers.We describe the design challenges encountered in building the system and detail how our obiect-oriented implementation let us meet these challenges.In particular,we describe the object-oriented database,user interface,and internal implementation of the system.This implementation achieved many of the promises of object orientation,including code reuse and ease of integration.The thorough object-oriented approach allowed our system to be flexible,data-driven,and centered on its users' tasks and requirements.
