A practical implemonmtion of a TMN Q3 interface for the management of telecommunications switches is described.The interface consists of a full 7-layer OSI protocol stack and the following three application service areas:1)Alarm Surveillance (using CMISE),2)Command Interface(using CMISE)and 3)File handling(using FTAM).Seven regional operations and maintenance (O&M)centre have been established,each of which being responsible for the management of all switches within its region.These centres are based on TMOSTM,Ericsson's TMN platform.TMOS is reviewed briefly.The centres are connected to a nationwide O&M network to suppport the management of the entire Norwegian telecommunications network.Thus,this represents an early,and fairly large-acale introduction of an operational "TMN network".
