A pilot study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in reducing color in three different wastewater effluent streams from an integrated pulp and paper mill. THe effiuent streams included two from the kraft bleaching process and the final mill (combined) effluent after secondary treatment. Advanced oxidation processes reduced color in the caustic extract by up to 85 percent, in the acid wasteater by up to 90 percent, and in the final effluent by up to 50 percent.
