A discontinuous waveform composed of discrete single-cycles is introduced here as a method for powering and controlling corona discharge cells in ozone generators. Each single-cycle is a bipolar pulse consisting of a pair of unipolar pulses of opposite polarity and fixed width. The dead time interval between one single-cycle and the mext is varied to provide a variable repetition rate which controls the average corona power. This allows for infinite turndown of ozone output while maintaining higher frequency operation, resulting in a smoother corona and a reduction in size and cost of the high-voltage transformer.
