Bromate formation by ozonation and advanced oxidation

During the production of drinking water from bromide containing surface water using chemical oxidants such as ozone, bromate may be formed. Animal research has shown that bromate is a genotxic carcinogen. Bormate causes renal failure and hearing loss in laboratory animals and in human beings. The IARC considers bromate to be a potnetial carcinogen for human beings.
