A problem of a cable exposed to environmental influences such as gravity and aerodynamicsis relevant in various fields of engineering. Though, an analytical treatment of the cable'sdynamic response is a challenging task. In the current work, a mathematical representation ofcable dynamics is achieved through discretization into finite segments. The proposed modelallows one to examine complex configurations such as non-uniform geometry and nonconservativemedium. A validation based on comparison to known solutions is performed. Apreliminary stability analysis of the externally forced cable is presented. Possible stabilizingmethods of oscillatory responses are suggested.
