A novel unary arithmetic circuitry is presented to accommodate pixel interpolation and motion detection from monitoring images obtained by portable medical devices comprising stacked silicon chips. Chip stacking suffers severe limitation on energy consumption of deeply embedded chips where low energy schemes are mandatory. Since a unary adder does not propagate carry signals, it operates faster than binary counterparts. Due to shorter computation time the total energy consumed per sortie is smaller than binary designs.
