The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of both spraying pump capacity (PCp) and initial polyurethane concentration (PUic) in chloroform-polyurethane blend solution on the cell colonization efficiency of polyurethane (PU) scaffolds produced by the spraying technique. This technique will be used for tissue engineering of aortic valves. Patches (n=14), sprayed with different PCp and PUic, were seeded with human vascular fibroblasts FBs and endothelial cells ECs and evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and immunohistochemical staining (IHC). FBs and ECs colonization efficiency on PU-patches can be improved by increasing the PUic in the blend solution. PCp does not appear to be relevant for the seeding efficiency.
