INFLUENCE OF BINDERS ON PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF CORUNDUM BASED CASTABLES

Three different corundum based castables were prepared with binders of Al_2O_3-SiO_2 gel powder, hydratable alumina and calcium aluminate cement respectively. The typical physical properties of the castables after heat-treating at different temperatures, such as bulk density, apparent porosity, permanent linear change, thermal shock resistance and mechanical strength both at room and elevated temperature were tested and compared with each other. Their mineral phase changes and microstructure characteristics of the castables were analyzed by means of scanning electronic microscope.
