The technology ofpeelable sealants has been used in plastic food packaging since the concept was first developed in'the late 1960's. Today, peelable sealants experience fest market growth due to consumers' ever growing demand for easy open food packaging. In particular, there are growing needs from the market for a " ready to use" peelable sealant resin that has lower heat seal initiation temperature as well as optical, hot tack, and organoleptic properties. In an effort to meet these needs, the Dow Chemical Company has developed and commercialized peelable sealant resins under the trade name SEALUTION?. This paper discusses the key performance attributes of a high clarity peel seal resin that has applications in dry food packages, stand up pouches, and lidding applications.
