A survey on manufacturing indicates that beside continuously performed improvements new ground was broken in metal cutting. Dry cutting technology is still under development and has started to be implemented in the industrial manufacturing. High speed cutting (HSC) is on the way to be implemented on a broader scale. High performance cutting (HPC) is a new field with the more general approach to optimise complete value adding chains in manufacturing. Machining of aircraft materials is still rated difficult. Progress in tooling is the key for further substantial progress and implementation of the above technologies.
