Integration of a passive microwave subsystem and equipment housing is shown to improve performance as well as facilitating large scale and low cost production requirements for a digital point-to-multipoint (MDMS) terminal equipment. Particular design constraints — yielding several novel component designs, as e.g. cavity filters with improved stop band performance, single acting strip line to waveguide transitions — are discussed in detail. Investigations respecting manufacturing tolerances and environmental conditions are presented. The approach is realized in a 10 GHz MDMS terminal equipment. Since there is no possibility for measuring the passive subsystem or components thereof during manufacturing, the designs have been verified experimentally by representative hardware prior to the series production.
