摘要

A new family of thermoplastics, polylactide or PLA, has been develoepd for packaging applications. PLA, when produced by Cargill Dow, is a new thermoplastic derived from processed corn. In this report, the unique perofrmance features of PLA are reviewed and compared to other flexible packaging materials. Comparisons to high performance sealants will highlight the outstanding combination of flavor and aroma barrier with high hot tack strength and low seal initiation temperatures.
