This paper presents an analysis of trends in equipment deployment in the long-haul environment. It examines issues that impact new technology deployment for long-hual applications, and concludes that optical cross-connects (OXCs) and ultra-long-haul (ULH) transmission equipment are the most significant technologies that will next be deployed in long-haul networks. It also provides RHK's forecast for these important technology deployments for the next several years.
