Because of its unique properties, polypropylene (PP) could enjoy a larger market if it was used as an extrudate inextrusion coating. Unfortunately, PP does not adhere well to most surfaces including film, foil and paper and ink.Adhesives are available that enhance extrudate-substrate bonding; however, these are usually solvent based andrequire special post-application heating equipment. Presented in this paper is the performance of new,developmental, waterbased primers for extruded PP. They offer the ability to prepare new structures fordemanding applications by extrusion coating and also provide an alternative to adhesive lamination of films.
