This paper describes an operation of series connected IGBT gatedrive circuit with a closed loop voltage control in high voltageinverter applications. The purpose of voltage control is toinstantaneously limit large overvoltage applied to certain IGBTs ininverter valves during switching transients and off-state IGBT voltagesand to maintain the voltage to an acceptable level. The performance ofthe gate drive circuit is examined experimentally by the seriesconnection of four different rated IGBTs with conventional snubbercircuits. The experimental results show the voltage balancing by thevoltage control with wide variations in imbalance conditions
