The Space Station Freedom,to be launched by NASA in the mid to late 1990s will contain a Space to Ground link with protocols consistent with the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) requirements.The Space to Ground Baseband Signal Processing hardware is responsible for multiplexing information from multiple users within the Space Station and formatting according to the above standard for the return link at 300 Mbps.The processing hardware also supports the demultiplexing function on the forward link,distributing data from the ground to multiple Space Station subsystems at 25 Mbps.Work for this effort is being performed by Motorola under contract to GE and McDonnell Douglas for NASA.
